Jeff Lang May Tour

Today, got my tickets to see Jeff Lang at Lizotte’s here on the Central Coast on May 29. Almost a year to the day when he last played up this way. And we have the same table right next to the stage. One of the great thing about booking online for Lizotte’s is you can pick your table (if you get in early enough of course).

Jeff will be touring Australia during May. Not sure on the dates yet for other venues but keep a look out in your local areas. If you have never seen him live please, oh please, do yourself a favour. A constant refrain from me but he is one of Australia’s great musicians and best seen in the flesh.

Wonder if I can plan my May Melbourne trip to coincide with one of Jeff’s shows?

I read the subject line and though “*May* tour? Doesn’t he tour all the time? Why the suspense?” Then I realised. Hah.

What are your thoughts on the Angels, Shaun? I only know that one nowaygetfrackedfrackoff song really, but I saw Rick and Jim Brewster in their new band (tasteful adult roots rock) at the Blue Mountains festival and wondered if there was anything of interest in the back catalogue?

    Glad you asked Amanda,

The Angels were pretty much classic Aussie pub rock ala AC/DC (who helped The Angels out in their early days). The tasteful adult roots rock that Rick and Jim are playing now is a tad less mellow than The Angels’ twin guitar assault that was their prime. Funnily enough, The Angels started off as the “Moonshine Jug and String Band” playing folksy, bluesy tunes. They just got louder.

If you are interested in a slab of pure Aussie rock, then the greatest hits collection “Wasted, Sleepless Nights” is a great introduction. “Dark Room” is probably their best album featuring the classic “No Secrets.” Just remember you aren’t going to get anything like what you heard at the Blue Mountains.

Now, you are going to see Jeff this tour? As soon as I find the Sydney dates I’ll be sure to post them.

Thanks. Yeah I know the genre, was wondering if theirs was pub rock with roots or what. What we got in the Mountains was quite nice especially with Jim Conway also in the line up– and they came back to sit in with the Irish singer Eleanor McEvoy on the Nick Lowe song I Knew The Bride which was ace — but could do with a bit more grunt. I know they must be able to do grunt. Also according to Wikipedia a new Moonshine Jug Band album is out this year?

I will preview the GHits on iTunes.

Now, you are going to see Jeff this tour?

    I may.

Oh “No Secrets.” I know that song, I just didn’t know I knew it …
